Step away from the grill and into the wild. In this unforgettable outdoor experience, you'll learn how to prepare real meals using open flames, hot coals, and the natural elements—no fancy equipment required. Whether you're packing your own ingredients or foraging in the wild, this course teaches practical fire-cooking skills that are perfect for Montana campers, hunters, hikers, and backcountry explorers.

With hands-on instruction, you’ll prepare hearty, nourishing meals from scratch and gain the confidence to cook anywhere—from your backyard fire pit to remote trail camps. The session ends with a shared group tasting around the fire—come hungry and ready to learn!

Joe Brandl

Joe Brandl is a seasoned outdoor educator, survivalist, and historian with decades of experience in wilderness skills, Scouting leadership, and historical interpretation. He has lived and worked in some of the most remote regions of the American West, including the Gros Ventre Wilderness, and was featured on the international survival series Naked and Afraid.

Joe holds a degree in wildlife management and has taught outdoor education, leadership, and team-building courses for corporate groups, dude ranches, and Scouting organizations.

Through his business, Legacy of the Wild, Joe offers hands-on instruction in traditional survival techniques with a focus on self-reliance, character development, and respect for the natural world. Known for his authenticity, discipline, and deep knowledge of frontier life, Joe continues to inspire others through teaching, public speaking, and personal storytelling.
